As far as we can tell, Korean company IOCELLs USB drives dont do anything different from other thumb drive technologies that let you store your applications and personal data with the idea of running all your apps on any computer, like Iomegas Active Disk, e.g. Theyre promoting the C2 software that theyre using in their drives as an open standard platform for USB drives, but theyre not being very clear about what makes it different and what advantage it has over already existing platforms like the U3 and Drive Alliance standards, already competing with each other in the marketplace. But you know, nothing like a good format war to make things like USB drives seem more exciting.

iPod shuffle -- now with color
Well hello new iPod shuffles. Breaking free from their bleak battleship-grey origins, the $79 iPod shuffle now hits in your choice of pink, green, blue, and even a new tasty orange flavor. Still 1GB, still 12 hours of battery, and yes... available with free laser engraving just in time for Valentines Day.
Update: We got so distracted by all those flashy colors, we forgot to mention the neatest part of the announcement. You might remember the (minor) public outcry at Apples failure to include those snazzy new iPod headphones with its 2G shuffle, especially considering the fact that the first time we got our hands on one, Apple was showing it off with the new headphones in tow. Well now it looks like Apple has finally gotten with the program and is including the new headphones with ...

DViCOs TiVX 5010-P HDTV recorder: everything but the disk
Koreas DViCO is prepping to launch their latest home media system with this, their new TiVX 5010-P HD TV recorder. If you think this all-singing, all-dancing personal video recorder looks like their M-5000U media streamer well, youd be right. So as youd expect, you get all that existing media goodness in addition to a new EPG, integrated ATSC hi-def television tuner, and the ability to record video at a 1920 x 1080 resolution in MPEG-2 TP transport stream files. In other words, it supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2, (VOB, ISO and IFO), AVI, TP, WMV9, tp, trp and ts (and the most common subtitle formats) video; JPEG images; and MP3, WMA, AAC, Ogg, PCM, AC3, M4A, FLAC and WAV audio. It also packs DVI, component, S-Video and composite video outs and 2x USB 2.0 ports for adding external disk drives...

Epsons NA102 and NA702 laptops: more Vista, less battery
Epson is doing the CPU bump this morning with their 12.1-inch and 14.1-inch Endeavor laptops now packing Vista pre-loads. The NA101 is re-christened the NA102 in celebration of its new 1.2GHz U2500 Core Duo processor option. Otherwise, it brings a Vista Home Basic pre-load and same 1024 x 764 pixel display, Intel 945GMS Express graphics, and up to 1.5GB of DDR2 memory and 100GB of disk. The slab weighs between 2.4 and 3.3-pounds depending upon the options you select such as their chunky 13,000mAh battery. Oh, and get this: if you load Vista, Epson claims a 17% to 20% reduction in battery life, dropping off from 12.6-hours under XP to 10.5-hours under Vista when using that long haul battery, or from 5.6-hours to 4.5-hours off the standard 5200mAh battery. The 14.1-inch NA701 become th...

Digital Cowboy intros webcam with telephoto lens
While its decidedly lacking compared to some telephoto lenses weve seen, Digital Cowboys new 7x number here should still be more than enough to make most other short-sighted webcams feel woefully inadequate about themselves. Detach that lens, however, and youre left with a fairly run-of-the-mill webcam, with a 1.3 megapixel resolution, face-tracking functionality, and video recording at up to 30 fps -- if you dont mind dropping things
down to 640 x 480, that is (youll just get 15 fps at the cams full resolution). Those looking to put the webcam to some remotely-controlled use will also be out of luck, with the lens strictly a manually operated deal. Look for this one to hit Japan next month for 9.800 Yen, or just over $80.

NVIDIAs Preface puts a pretty face on PortalPlayers SideShow gear
Theres a new line from NVIDIA, and for once it isnt concerned with FPS, PCI-X or your PSU. Nope, this time NVIDIA is showing off its softer side, with its new "Preface" line of SideShow devices powered by PortalPlayer, that can in turn be used by OEM manufacturers in their PCs or other media devices. As youre no doubt aware, SideShow is simply a pretty way to access your computers information while its off or closed, so you can play around with emails or MP3s without going through the trouble of booting your PC. Weve already seen a couple of PortalPlayer auxiliary displays make their way into laptops such as Asus WF5e and LGs Z1, but now things are really spicing
up with Bluetooth and IR functionality in media remotes and portable players. The player pictured above, which we saw wit...

Centurys 16-port USB 2.0 hub for two PCs
Weve got USB hubs from all walks of life, including wireless, three-port, and duck-inspired, but Century has em all topped with its new CHMP-16. This 16-port USB 2.0 hub sports a brick-like design, (obviously) requires separate AC power, and can be connected to two PCs simultaneously. With just the flip of a switch, all 16 of your USB peripherals can instantly be operated on a secondary computer, which
just might cause an unstable OS to completely self-destruct. Although were not sure on how much coinage this thing will demand, weve got to admit, this should be a required purchase for the avid Thanko collector....

Everex kicks out Vista-equipped IMPACT desktops
Once Japans own CTO brought a lappie to American shores under the Everex moniker, we knew a similar desktop wasnt too far behind, and now it looks like the company has waited for Vista to make its "debut" before loosing them Stateside. The IMPACT series desktops are admittedly lacking in the style department, but they do offer average components for everyday computing if youre not concerned with fashion, and Everex even gives the polarized CPU camp a choice between Intel and AMD. The GE6315J houses a 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of RAM, dual-layer DVD burner, 8-channel onboard audio, four USB 2.0 ports, audio in / out, VGA out, Ethernet, Intels 945G Express integrated graphics set, Vista Home Premium, 250GB hard drive, a ho hum collection of peripherals, and a 19-inch WXGA+ LCD ...

Inventor patents personal TV censor
Inventor Matthew Jarman looks to be out to make the untamed TV landscape a little more palatable for those with sensitive ears, developing an application thatll mute out offensive language based on your potty-mouth tolerance level, or block programs all together if they prove to be unmutable. The system apparently works by monitoring the closed-captioning text that accompanies most television programs, muting the audio whenever it comes across a word youve deemed unsuitable -- seemingly a tricky thing to time properly, especially given the delay usually associated with CC feeds, although Jarman appears to be quite confident in its efficacy. To block entire programs, the system simply relies on program descriptions provided by electronic program guides. While theres no indication when or if...

Faith-gos Inspire X does quad-core AMD style
Lest we forget, Intels QX6700 isnt the only quad-core game in town, and while AMDs Quad FX platform mightve been edged out by Intel in benchmark land, theres still plenty to love about the power chompin beast. Faith-go is putting those cores to good use in its stylish new Inspire X FX70XN/DVR-88GTX setup, which sports an Athlon 64 FX-70 processor, along with GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB graphics, 2GB of RAM, a 10k rpm 150GB HDD, and a super multi-DVD drive. All of this (literal) hotness resides on a NVIDIA nForce 680a SLI chipset, with the chutzpah to support up to four graphics cards. Considering the bleeding edge components on display here, the $3,253 pricetag doesnt sound too ridiculous, though were not positive this box will be making its way to the US anyways, so perhaps the point is

Radiation patients raising false dirty bomb alarms
Handheld radiation detectors sound well and good, and are designed to detect the threat of dirty bombs or other radiation, which seems like a just cause, but they also appear to be picking up a good many false positives from recent subjects of radiation treatment. After being injected or implanted with radioisotopes, the patient can be "hot" for up to three months, and with 60,000 people a day undergoing such treatment or tests in the US, and 12,000 handheld radiation detectors out there to sniff these people out, its understandable that there are more than a few people getting flagged and searched -- sometimes quite intimately -- at security checkpoints. Doctors are encouraged to warn their patients of such inconveniences, and some
doctors even write notes or hand out a card that allows ...
