Danny Hillis (Metaweb), Barney Pell (Powerset) and Nova Spivack (Radar Networks) shared the stage for a session on the semantic Web at the Web 2.0 Summit.
All three are developing services that bake more intelligence into the Web. And, the companies are all well funded, hyped and loaded with experience and talent. In fact, Hillis, Pell and Spivack have been part of the Silicon Valley AI community for the last dozen years. Danny Hillis was a founder of Thinking Machines, where Spivack worked for a period.

Sergey Brin was spotted having dinner with an associate from Greylock that is said to be involved in that companys Facebook investment. The meeting seemed to be important and rushed enough to hold just hours before Googles Q3 earnings conference call yesterday.
Rumors of a hot deal-making session were quickly dissolved by people who were actually at the dinner table, but it is still interesting to see that particular mix of people together even if it turns out to be a false alarm. Would a Facebook acquisition a...

Literally within minutes of each other (strangely coincidental), I received two e-mails one from a colleague and the other from someone who concealed their identity that basically told me I was out of line for questioning the chances that Microsofts Windows Home Server will succeed. My colleague Shawn Morton over at sister CNET Networks property Tech Republic simply notified me that he had responded in his blog. The headline of his...

Brad Fitzpatrick and David Recordon are on a mission to free up the social graph from walled gardens (see their Thoughts on the Social Graph). Executives from MySpace, Facebook and Google agree that users should own their own data, including their social graph (the people they are connected to a social network), but so far the walls have not come down much.
We want to get to a point that just as blogs sites cant launch without RSS or Atom,...

After noting claims by users (first reported in this DSL Forum thread) that Comcast was blocking file-sharing traffic, the Associated Press decided to test this assertion by doing some tests of their own.
They were looking for a non-copyrighted, non-infringing work of considerable length. Length, as in lots of bytes.
AP selected the King James Bible, with transfers attempted via BitTorrent from Comcast-connected computers in the Philadelphia and San Francisco metro ...

Mr. Bremby is Kansass state secretary of health and enviornment. And for what is probably the first time in U.S. history he stopped construction of a new coal-burning power plantbasedhere it comes: on CO2...

Among the product announcements at last weeks HR Technology conference in Chicago was a major relaunch from Nasdaq-listed SaaS vendor Workstream. The unveiling of its flagship TalentCenter 7.0 marks the companys emergence from a period of much behind-the-scenes work. We really went invisible for the past sixteen months while we reinvented ourselves, senior VP of marketing Gary Damiano told me in a briefing last month. That reinvention includes the hiring at the beginning...
