Just when you thought we were through with this IREX 05 robotic insanity, we bring you this little trained assassin. Of course, he might look totally insane right here in, um, doggie mode, but you could make the ROBOTIS look like a skilled ninja since its totally configurable. Kind of like a Lego set for robots, ROBOTIS carries all the individual parts on their website youll need for making whatever walking, crawling, scurrying, lounging, or kick butting robot you can come up with or afford. The parts, they aint cheap though; a hand can run you $260 dollars, and theyre not exactly giving away the other stuff. Theres also no telling how the software compares to Legos Mindstorm offerings, but there is definite potential here.

Saudi Arabia is preparing to add more refineries in the next few years. And they plan to begin refining more of their less desirable, more sulphurous, crude oil. Saudi is aiming for an 80% increase in refining capacity. Most refineries in the world can now only handle light crude. The largest fraction of the worlds heavy crude deposits are in Canada, convenient for gas-guzzling Americans.

The iPhone 3G on AT&T: we ask the burning questions
So wait just a second here -- you say you have to activate the iPhone 3G in-store, and unlimited data is going to run another $10 a month? With the new model comes an entirely new way of doing business, it seems, and that brings on a whole slew of new questions for the good folks at AT&T. Here are a few weve managed to ask so far, the official answers, and in some cases, information weve managed to gather on the side....

iPhone 3G not instilling fear in Apples music foes
LOS ANGELES--Apples upgraded iPhone didnt inspire fear in at least two of the biggest subscription music sites--even before they learned that the device wouldnt let people download music via the new 3G network.
"Im not trembling," Anu Kirk, Rhapsodys director of product management, said Monday at the iHollywood conference. "Im sure they are going to sell a lot of second-generation iPhones. Its a fantastic product but they cant take over the United States with just one carrier."
Kirk was speaking on a panel discussing the mobile music category and specifically about cell phones as music players. The discussion took place as Apple CEO Steve Jobs was introducing the new iPhone 3G at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.
Kirk doesnt think the iPhone 3G can d...

Omen bodes well for Voodoos gaming future
Besides the new Envy 133, Voodoo is also launching its 22-inch tall, all-aluminum (glass, wood, and leather too) Omen tower. This time, for gamers. It features a 7-inch, 800 x 480 display for secondary information on the outside and a Voodoo designed water cooling loop on the inside to keep the fire down on up to 2x CPUs (up to 16 cores) and 4x GPUs. The system tops out with a pair of 3.2GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9770 processors, 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM, and support for "next generation" NVIDIA and ATI graphics... at a price. Starting at around $7,000 and available exclusively to existing Voodoo customers at launch sometime later this year.

Video: Voodoo floats 13.3-inch Envy 133 into the Air
Oh my. First youre slicing cake with the MacBook Air, then youre looking to steal its market share. Lenovo, you cant afford to be too smug either. Voodoos $2,099, carbon fiber Envy 133 isnt a gaming rig. It is, however, a 13.3-inch ultra-portable with LED-backlit display, 1,280 x 800 resolution, Intel GMA X3100 graphics, 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SP7700 processor, HDMI, 2x USB (1 doubles as eSATA) and hard disk or SSD option. It also features an instant-on Voodoo IOS mode that lets you surf the web, chat, look at photos, and make Skype calls without booting into Windows. Impressed yet? Well what if we told you that the power brick (and its definitely a brick!) doubles as a WiFi access point? Check the preview just beyond the read link, or full video explanation after the break.

Google Maps meets Grand Theft Auto
Who would have believed Googles geographic Web services could actually get your adrenaline going?
Granted, these arent real video games, but two Web sites are pushing what can be done with interactive interfaces to Google Maps and Google Earth.
This rudimentary game lets people drive various vehicles around Google Maps. Here Im taking a semi through Tokyo traffic.

The first, taking advantage of Google Maps new ability to work with Flash applications, lets you drive a car, bus, or truck around Google Maps. It wont bat an eye if you drive through a building or into the ocean, but Katsuomi Kobayashi, the programmer from Osaka, Japan, who wrote it, was happy to note that the software can display images at 40 frames per second vs. 20 at best for JavaScript. And it...

Beijing subway upgrade ends paper tickets
The days of tissue-thin tickets collected by human attendants are over in Beijings underground. Riders on Monday were greeted by electronic ticketing with automatic gates.
When Beijings Line 5 debuted in October last year, riders found out what they could expect, as new electronic gates were installed but not yet unfurled. Travelers in Asia will recognize the mechanisms from Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Beijings new subway ticketing system was previewed with the opening of Line 5 in October 2007. They came into service June 9, 2008.

Besides removing the human factor from ticket sales and collection, a feat accomplished already with debit-based ticketing cards that have been in place for quite a while, the system puts Beijing in league with advanced systems that ...

Ever since the iPhone was released a year ago I complained that it had to be cabled to a Mac to be synced. Here we had one of the most amazing mobile phones on the planet ? with three radios (WiFi, Bluetooth and EDGE) ? yet it had to be cabled to be synced.
Apple fixed that problem today with a re-branded Mac.com service called Mobile Me. Shortly after the keynote was completed the Me.com domain began redirecting to a new Apple Web site for the new service that allows you sync email, contacts ...
