Olympuss EVOLT E-510 and E410 live LCD DSLRs

Author:Ryan Block

Date:by , posted Mar 5th 2007 at 5:12AM

Its been a while since Olympus did anything with that E-500 (although not so much with the newish E-400), but the new EVOLT E-510 (above) is sure to considered be an improvement, what with its live view LCD. On the sensor side youll be working with 10 megapixels at up to 1600 ISO on that Fourth Thirds lens mount, CF and xD card support, as well as making use of its newest-generation TruePic III image processor. The difference between the E-510 and E-410, however, isnt just in the $100 price gap: the E-510 also has OIS and a higher capacity battery (and the larger grip, so you know it from the 410 in the gallery). The body only E-510 will run you $799 in June 2007, while the E-410 will land for $699 in May.

[Thanks, camerasnap]

Fresh off the press: iPhoneDbg toolkit hotness

June 18th, 2008 Fresh off the press: iPhoneDbg toolkit hotness Posted by Nathan McFeters @ 12:01 am Categories: Apple, Vulnerability research, Pen testing Tags: Apple iPhone, iPhone Debugger, Nathan McFeters The guys at Core Security just released an iPhoneDbg toolkitthat should make exploit development for the iPhone much easier. This is outstanding news for all, as I think there has been a lot of concern over the quick rise of mobile devices and the new security concerns that they create. The capabilities of this debugger will allow researchers to work with discovered issues to determine if they are exploitable or not. Combine this with the mobile python capabilities out there, and you should be able to whip up a nice fuzzer/debugger combo for testing out the iPhone. See ...

Its the last day of school!

June 17th, 2008 Its the last day of school! Posted by Christopher Dawson @ 9:05 pm Categories: Education Technology Tags: Thin Client, Teacher, Thin Clients, Microsoft Windows Active Directory, Directory Services, Hardware, Enterprise Software, Software, Christopher Dawson So what do I need to do? A few things, actually. Its time to make a list. Several thin clients have hit hardware snags (surprising since they have so little actual hardware to fail); others need to just be reimaged (those darned kids). Right now, the thin clients all have static IP addresses assigned to them as well to easily snag kids doing bad stuff. Summer time always sees the labs pulled apart so that floors can be refinished, so at the very least, all of the thin clients need to be labeled with their...

Mac and PC are at it again

June 17th, 2008 Mac and PC are at it again Posted by Christopher Dawson @ 8:39 pm Categories: Education Technology Tags: School, Apple Macintosh, PC, Microsoft Windows, Desktops, Operating Systems, Software, Hardware, Christopher Dawson The decision-making about how to roll out new technology in our districts elementary schools continues. While the decisions have been fairly straightforward at the middle and high schools, such is not the case at our elementaries, where religious wars are breaking out. It actually feels a little bit like the flame wars that hit ZDNet occasionally. All we need is Mike Cox to round things out. One lone (but large) elementary school has a staff and administration adamantly in favor of a Windows platform. This school also happens to be the facil...

Ben Heck does it again with Atari 7800 portable

Paul Miller   Year:by , posted Jun 19th 2008 at 9:32AM   Source Site:engadget

Theres no stopping this guy, and now hes built himself an Atari 7800 portable just to make sure the kiddie hackers know whos the Heckendornest. Ben Heck built the 7800 portable with a 7-inch widescreen to accomodate that larger motherboard on the 7800 (compared to the 2600). Apparently large, complex motherboards just dont phase him anymore. The unit boasts rechargeable batteries, a combination driving / paddle controller, and an A/V output jack. Ben, youre a legend....

Chinese antipiracy agency: Were not probing Microsoft

Dawn Kawamoto   Year:June 19, 2008 6:22 AM PDT   Source Site:newsblog

Chinas State Intellectual Property Office denied reports on Thursday that Microsoft and other software behemoths were under investigation, according to an Associated Press report. The antitrust agencys statement was a response to a Wednesday report by the Shanghai Securities News saying the Intellectual Property Office was investigating allegations that large software companies were using their market position to gain favorable pricing, as well as curtail research and development by local Chinese companies. The Chinese news agency also reported that some local companies were contemplating filing antitrust lawsuits, based on a new law that is set to take effect August 1. Although the Shanghai Securities News did not cite Microsoft, specifically, in its report, it quoted a source, who r...

Dell keeps promise, invokes fees for "downgrading" to Windows XP

Darren Murph   Year:by , posted Jun 19th 2008 at 9:32AM   Source Site:engadget

Oh no, Dell isnt forgetting to do its duty to Microsoft. Just as promised, it has now bumped up the prices for folks wanting to stick with Windows XP Professional. As of now, the only way to get XP pre-installed is by selecting an option that also throws Vista in the box, and if youre specifically after Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP MCE, youre thoroughly out of luck. On eligible machines, it looks as if getting XP Pro along with Vista Business will cost you $99 more than Vista Home alone, while having Vista Ultimate ride shotgun adds another $50. Let us know if you notice any different pricing arrangements. [Via ComputerWorld]...
