So it looks like controversial former Attorney General John Ashcroft is using his remaining influence in the Justice Department to lobby on behalf of the National Association of Broadcasters against the proposed satellite radio merger -- though it seems that hes acting more out of self-interest than anti-trust ideology in this debate, as the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Ashcrofts consulting firm initially approached XM before eventually being hired by NAB. As you might imagine, then, Ashcrofts letter the House and Senate Judiciary Committees was decidedly anti-amalgamation, concluding that "the proposed Sirius/XM merger, which
reduces the number of competitors from two to one, raises most serious competition concerns." Of course, now that everyone knows Ashcroft originally intended to shill for XM before NAB "opted to pay him to parrot their views" (according to an XM spokesperson), his "professional opinion" on the matter will probably hold decidedly less weight. Still, the WSJ revelation apparently didnt stop Ashcroft from enjoying his weekend, where at various times he was spotted listening to his iPod, jamming out to HD radio, streaming NPR over the Internet, and of course nodding in agreement as Rush Limbaugh espoused his opinions over the free analog airwaves.Return Homepage: Technology Information

Measuring Engagement: What Does It Mean? Lots of people in digital marketing are promoting the concept of tracking engagement -- instead of giving credit to the last ad clicked on a Web site. But what exactly does "engagement" mean? That question was posed to a panel at the American Association of Advertising Agencies digital conference today in New York City. And, if David Smith, chief executive of MediaSmith, had his way, hed head back to the drawing board -- or Websters.

FASTRA Desktop Supercomputer Built With 4 Nvidia 9800 GX2 Graphics Cards [Nvidia]
http://gizmodo.com/ 394128/ fastra-desktop-supercomputer-built-with-4-nvidia-9800-...
Looking at new computational methods for tomography-a technique used by medical scanners to create 3D images-University of Antwerp researchers have built a budget supercomputer using four Nvidia 9800 GX2 graphics cards (a total of eight GPUs with 1,024 stream processors) as its super-calculating soul, which "perform as fast as 350 modern CPU cores." This kind of setup works really well for tomography because the number-crunching can be done in parallel and is highly vectorized-the same kind of stuff the medical community and Air Force were eye-balling the PS3 for, since the Cell uses a similar...

If You Build a PC Case Out of Duct Tape, Geeks Will Come [DIY]

We all know duct tape has a million uses-but did you know that the actual figure is a million and one? Its true-a bunch of geeks confirmed it when they succeeded in building a PC case entirely out of the sticky stuff. You laugh because its stupid, but you have to be impressed with the amount of thought these guys put into the project. They even managed to keep all of the components and the structure itself secure using rolled up duct tape support beams. If you would like to do the same for some reason, complete instructions are available on the project site. [Icrontic]

Techrigy SM2 Social Media Monitoring Platform
http://www.webmetricsguru.com/ 2008/ 05/ techrigy_sm2_social_media_moni.html
Recently, I got access to Techrigys SM2 platform with the capacity to run anything I wanted on it - it came about as a result of attending the Social Media Roundtable in Toronto last week. I was live tweeting at the Roundtable (Social Media RoundTable Summary and WhitePaper ahead ) and when I mentioned that everyone seemed to want a Social Media Dashboard, I was contacted by Martin Edic of Techrigy about Techrigys SM2, which is has a "Freemimum" account (anyone can try the product, the limit is how many terms you can monitor).
