Intel demos iPhone-like MID of the future

Author:Joshua Topolsky

Source Site:engadget

Intel just keeps banging out the hits from IDF. After the handful of McCaslin "next-quarter" and "coming-soon" UMPCs we saw from the chipmaker (and associates), Intel started busting out prototypes from its forthcoming Menlow chipset, using smaller, 45nm Silverthorne CPUs, and the 2009/2010 offering Moorestown... which is the bad-boy youre looking at in these photos is based on. In a rather obvious homage to the iPhone, the chip-kingpin presented this do-anything, go-anywhere MID (provided you can cram this French-bread-sized device into a pocket). The device will feature a 45nm CPU as well, plus all kinds of goodies like integrated WiFi and WiMAX, and apparently 24 hours of battery life on a single charge. Obviously, this product will probably never see the light of day (at least not in this form factor), but then again -- you never really know. Check a few more photos after the break.

The Detroit Tiger Weblog   Year:12 hours ago   Source Site:technorati

From the Technology channel ? Jeremy Bonderman out for season http://www.detroittigersweblog.com/ 2008/ 06/ jeremy-bonderman-out-for-season/ Jeremy Bonderman is officially out for the season due to circulatory problems in his shoulder. Bonderman was examined yesterday at the Detroit Medical Center and it was determined he has a blood clot of the axillary vein due to thoracic outlet compression syndrome. Bonderman underwent a thromblysis last night, followed by an angioplasty this morning at the Detroit Medical Center, performed by Dr. Monte Harvill under the supervision of team physician Dr. Stephen Lemos. He will undergo further examination of his condition at a later date. This is devastating news for a team that has been pretty much devastating. 12 hours ago Tagged: 20...

Skype Adds Caller ID Presentment In USA

From the IT channel ? Skype Adds Caller ID Presentment In USA http://andyabramson.blogs.com/ voipwatch/ 2008/ 06/ skype-adds-call.html Skype keeps acting more and more like a real phone company (read telco) with the ability to now display Caller ID in North America. With this move Skype continues to pass the "duck test." While you can also opt to display your mobile phone number, I think its far better to use your Skype number and forward it to wherever you want using Skype Out and get the Unlimited Plan. You have more control, especially if you use multiple phone numbers or travel Internationally as you can take greater advantage of Skypes low calling rates. 1 day ago VoIP Watch http://andyabramson.blogs.com/ voipwatch view larger thumbnail Authority: 198 Favorit...

TakeTV, she is dead

From the Technology channel ? TakeTV, she is dead http://www.crunchgear.com/ 2008/ 06/ 07/ taketv-she-is-dead/ SanDisks TakeTV - the thing where you plugged a thing into your computer, dragged over movies, and then schlepped them to your TV - is dead along with its content site, FanFare. I probably could have told you that while the concept was solid there was one hole in the plan - that whole schlepping part. Imagine countless exchanges like this: Customer: So I put the movies on here and then??? Best Buy Guy: You walk to your TV and??? Customer: Walk? Best Buy Guy: Really? Whats this whole Windows Media Center thing about? 21 hours ago Tagged: deaths, headline, hot, sandisk, taketv CrunchGear http://www.crunchgear.com view larger thumbnail Authori...

Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in Atari Movie? [Movies]

Kotaku, the Gamer???s Guide   Year:9 hours ago   Source Site:technorati

From the Technology channel ? Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in Atari Movie? [Movies] http://kotaku.com/ 5014259/ leonardo-dicaprio-to-star-in-atari-movie OK, OK, kinda misleading headline - his production company is producing "Atari" a biopic about Nolan Bushnell, Pongs developer and Ataris founder. Paramount bought the rights yesterday. Indications are that he will star, but not knowing the story yet, I dont know if that means he would play Bushnell or, perhaps, another character through whom the story of Bushnell and Atari is presented. The Hollywood Reporter describes "Atari" as drawing on themes of "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," and "Tucker: The Man and His Dream." I was hoping itd be a movie adaptation of "Space War" - just two ships drifting to the center of the screen, shooti...

Filed under: Wireless That deal AT&T whipped out of their hats to take over T-Mobiles position as sole provider of WiFi at Starbucks? Turns out T-Mo is pissed about how the transition has gone down, and has filed suit against the buxx alleging collusion with AT&T, despite their supposedly exclusive agreement. Apparently T-Mo was basically allowed to run out its time serving and promoting WiFi service while Starbucks shops slowly converted over to AT&T. But T-Mo feels like its basically been pushed out (you dont say!), claiming only two markets (San Antonio and Bakersfield) have a...

Shaq Shows Up At The Bemont Stakes Dressed Like A Jockey

From the Technology channel ? Shaq Shows Up At The Bemont Stakes Dressed Like A Jockey http://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 06/ shaq-shows-up-at-bemont-stakes-dress... Shaq always makes me laugh for some reason. The guy just doesnt care and his appearance on ESPN today at the Belmont Stakes was no different. I believe he was doing a promotion for vitamin water, but Shaq decided to give some of the jockeys some tips.... That Diplomatic Immunity line is too funny, and I also love how Hank Goldberg just doesnt care that Kenny Mayne is trying to get a joke in and steps all over him to get that coach question in. Good times. 9 hours ago Tagged: horse crap, kenny mayne, shaq, youtube video Awful Announcing http://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com view larger th...

From the Technology channel ? The Story Behind Googles New Favicon http://www.techcrunch.com/ 2008/ 06/ 07/ the-story-behind-googles-new-favicon/ Recently people have been noticing that the Google favicon, the small icon in your browsers address bar when you visit a Google site, has changed from the familiar upper-case G to a lower-case one. Google has not changed this design in over eight years, so the change caused speculation that more design changes might be afoot. Well, it turns out that the new Favicon is part of a new family of icons Google has designed for use in different situations, from its logo to the browser favicon to mobile applications. 14 hours ago Tagged: company & product profiles, google TechCrunch http://www.techcrunch.com view large...

Is this a recession and do we care?

Econbrowser   Year:11 hours ago   Source Site:technorati

From the Technology channel ? Is this a recession and do we care? http://www.econbrowser.com/ archives/ 2008/ 06/ is_this_a_reces.html Could well be, and yes you should. There is no question that weve been experiencing an episode of economic stagnation in which key indicators of output and employment are not growing at their usual historical rates. Some analysts take the position that this is all that really matters, and whether it meets the formal definition of a "recession" is a pointless question of semantics. In support of such a position, there are a number of economic models quite popular among academics today that would warrant just such a perspective, in that they presuppose linear dynamic systems in which a "recession" is indeed just an arbitrary definition you would mak...
